2017年から5年間撮り続けた、南アフリカ・ケープタウンのポートレート。圧倒的な格差のある国で、決して裕福ではない彼らだが、その存在感は際立っていた。所有するものは限られている。

しかし、そのすべてが彼ら自身を映し出し、生き方そのものが強い輝きを放っている。撮影を続ける中で、私は被写体を見つめるだけでなく、自分自身もまた見られる存在であることを意識するようになった。危険と緊張の中でも、時間をかけ、彼らと向き合いながら撮り続けている。

These are portraits of people in Cape Town, South Africa, taken over a five-year period starting in 2017. They live in a country with overwhelming inequality, and although they are by no means wealthy, their presence is striking. They own very little. However, everything they own reflects who they are, and their way of life itself shines with a strong radiance. As I continued to shoot, I became aware that I was not just looking at the subjects, but that I was also being looked at. Even in the midst of danger and tension, I continued to take pictures, taking my time to face them.
